Okay, that might sound like it doesn’t make any sense. Swapping saliva with someone else might not seem like the best way to not get sick, after all, what if he’s got a cold? But science says otherwise. Kissing and therefore swapping spit, actually improves you immune system. It’s hypothesised that this is because by exposing your immune system to low levels of bacteria and germs carried by someone else, you’re helping your system recognise these invaders and therefore be better prepared when you get hit by a big dose of the nasties. However it works though, if you don’t want to get sick so often, you’ll get down to some lip and tongue action.

All that talk about rising temperatures and racing heart beats might make this little fact slightly counterintuitive too, but the truth is that kissing actually lowers your blood pressure, rather than raising it. Kissing does make your heart race, but in a healthy way, that helps to dilate your blood vessels and get blood pumping strongly to all the places that it needs to be. So kissing is good for your heart in any sense of the word.

Yep, it certainly does. The thing with kissing is that it makes your mouth produce even more saliva, and saliva is your body’s natural way of washing cavity causing plaque off your teeth. If you want to cut down on dentist’s visits then you’ll get down to smooching.

We all get stressed from time to time, but kissing is the ultimate stress buster. Stress is caused by an increase in cortisol, which is your body’s stress hormone, and this depletes your immune system, endocrine system and even effects your brain. Kissing however lowers cortisol levels, effectively making you less stressed. As if you needed an excuse for a make out session after a long, hard day at work…

Hmm, that sounds like a bit of a no brainer, but quite apart from pasting a silly grin all over your face, kissing makes you scientifically happy. When you kiss, your body releases endorphins, your body’s natural happy drug. And with depression being rampant these days, kissing can help you fight those blues.

Here’s another strange one for you: kissing makes you feel pain less. When you kiss your body releases those sexy, happy endorphins that we just talked about, as well as that adrenaline that makes your heart race. These two chemicals in combination are an effective painkiller. Alright, it might not help too much with a broken leg, but adrenaline and endorphins are a pretty good headache pill.
